The distressing situation unfolding in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on their health system, severely restricted access to services, and triggered an urgent need to treat injuries and chronic diseases. Crippled infrastructure and disrupted chains of medical supplies now pose a huge threat to treating thousands and millions of people.
Approximately 7 million, which means 1 in 4 Ukrainians are displaced, aggravating the condition of those suffering from non-communicable diseases. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 1 in 3 internally displaced suffers from a chronic condition. Around 50% of pharmacies in Ukraine are not functioning. Numerous health workers are displaced themselves or unable to work. Close to 1000 health facilities are close to conflict lines or are in changed areas of control. The consequence of that – limited or no access to medicines, facilities and health professionals. It means that treatments of chronic conditions have almost stopped.
Nua Fertility is privileged to work alongside exceptional people close to home who are working on supplying humanitarian needs to the families of Ukraine. We initially donated to a local campaign run by the daughter of our in-house fertility expert, Dr Lyuda Shkrobot, that appeals to purchase a second-hand ambulance, which will be stocked with medical supplies and aid to help the injured Ukrainians. To further extend our support in getting more attention and donation for this cause, team Nua Fertility will be competing in the Triathlon relay on 9th April 2022.
Our participation in Triathlon involves raising awareness and getting as many eyes as possible to this cause. Again, all the donations will go directly to buying the ambulance and stocking it with medical supplies and baby food for children in Ukraine, which they are currently lacking. Nua Fertility stands with Ukraine, and we urge you to stand too.
Please donate what you can – even €1 can help save a child’s life!
